Four ways to live comfortably with tech

Tech, technology, gadgets – whatever you call them, they’re everywhere. There is no escaping just how much tech has infiltrated our lives.

I’m a not-so-secret nerd and I love my gadgets, but some of them can be hard to live with, especially if you’re short on space and / or don’t like too much ‘stuff’ lying around and messing with your aesthetic.

So here are my four tips to help you live comfortably with your tech.

Go big
If you’re still faithful to your PC but would rather it didn’t take up quite so much space then why not try using your TV as a computer monitor? This works best if you use the PC mostly for entertainment and not work or heavy emailing. All you need is a HDTV with a HDMI port – run a HDMI cable from your computer to your TV and away you go. If all you’re hearing  right now is gibberish, then just get hold of your friendly neighbourhood IT bod and get them to hook it up for you (I find that method works best).

Get small
If you prefer your domestic online experience a little smaller, then a good tablet might be all you need. But if like me you prefer the feel of a ‘real’ keyboard to do any prolonged typing, then there are a host of Bluetooth enabled keyboards that you can hook up to your tablet, phablet(?!) or mobile. Most of them are sleek, good looking with all the capabilities of a standard keyboard – but most importantly are much, much smaller.

Get smart
If you’re in the market for a new TV and really want to streamline then maybe you can do away with a computer all together and ‘get connected’ with a smart TV. They have integrated internet and Web 2.0 features – a ‘computelly’ if you will (ahem sorry). With a smart TV you can stream films, surf the net, instant message and keep an eye on your social networks – all in one place. Welcome to the 21st century eh.

Keep it simple
TV remote, Sky/TiVo, DVD player, home cinema gizmo, and maybe a games console = remote controls All. Over. The. place. Gone are the days when there was just one clunky remote to flick between channels one to four (yes I remember such a time).
If you’re fed up of the treasure hunt, having to flip all the sofa cushions and look under the sofa every time you need one misplace one then trade em all in for a super hi-tech universal remote. You can get a simple one that just works with your TV and DVD player or one that can control eight or more devices at a time.

There you have it, four ways to live comfortably with tech especially in a small space.

So how do you deal with your tech clutter?
